Different Views of the "American Dream"

The first author defines the american dream as equality is more wanted and wealth is second best. He makes his point as people would rather say they were equal to someone who had more money than them and the fact that a person is richer did not matter. The second author says that the american dream is to have more money now. His argument is that having more money can either make you feel more equal to a person or even a little better. The first author states the the american dream was once "modest". He says it was something everyone could obtain without "trampling one another". He is saying that if people would get over the want to be richer and better than one another, then we could all be equal while still feeling good about ourselves. The second author says the old saying, "money can not buy happiness," is now untrue. People say that they can be more happy with money. One of his major points was that some feel like lesser of a person or a failure if they don't have much money or they are embarrassed about how much money they make. I ended up agreeing with the first author. For so long, all most people cared about was being able to be treated as equals. Now that is half-way achieved, people are beginning to steer toward the thing that divided us and made us "unequal". The first author and I agree on this because I thing equality is more important than money. Once we are all equal, I think we should treat money as an optional bonus.
